John Lake Debunks the Myths of Skate Contouring
Super Stick - Professional Blade Maintenance Tool

The Ultimate dual purpose blade maintenance tool which quickly, easily and safely removes burrs and restores edges

Re-establishing blade edges can be done on the bench quickly and safely by using the "Super Stick". This hand-held tool can de-burr and sharpen the blade in less than 15 seconds and affords a quality edge at the same time.

De-burring is accomplished by using the flat side of the tool like a honing stone, yet it is safer as the hand is away from the blade.

Re-establish the skate blade edge
Re-establishing the edge or "Burnishing" is accomplished by simply positioning the ceramic tines so that they straddle the blade and by drawing the tool along the blade applying very light pressure.

If a sharper edge is required , perform the burnishing process again very lightly.

A freshly sharpened skate has edge efficiency of 100% at the end of 2 hrs of skating the efficiency has dropped 20%. GraphWith light burnishing the loss is approximately 5%.

At the end of 4 hours of skating the efficiency has dropped approximately 35%. With light burnishing the loss is approximately 15% or 85% efficient.

At the end of 6 hours of skating the efficiency has dropped approximately 50%. With light burnishing the loss is approximately 25%.

After 8 hours of skating efficiency has dropped to the point of needing a conventional skate sharpening.

Please Note: this graph applies to hockey skates in a recreational application. More aggressive use greatly affects edge performance. Goal and figure skate application afford longer duration between sharpening. SUPER STICK allows for a more consistent edge however, does not replace conventional sharpening.
